Moore offers his wisdom

Michael Moore is still bitter. Here is a portion of his “Open Letter to George Bush”

Friday, September 2nd, 2005

Dear Mr. Bush:

Any idea where all our helicopters are? It’s Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted. Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag.

[...]

I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don’t let people criticize you for this — after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike?

[...]

No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It’s not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C’mon, they’re black! I mean, it’s not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don’t make me laugh! Race has nothing — NOTHING — to do with this!

What a putz. (And what is with him using an AOL email address?) Someone on the left needs to tell him to use some of his massive amount of money to buy a clue. Moore continues to affirm that he actually has no idea whatsoever about how the country works. Bush is the left’s favorite scapegoat. Him and “global warming”. Let me quote Chrenkoff:

Global warming and hurricanes - The hurricanes aren’t historically on the increase, and the number of the most serious – category 4 and 5 – is down compared to previous decades (EU Rota has some nice tables). Hurricanes are also a part of a natural decades-long cycle of changing temperature of the Atlantic Ocean.

Bush diverted the money away from flood-proofing New Orleans - Two problems with that – New Orleans has been on notice since the previous devastating hurricane Betsy in 1965. Bush has been in the White House for only the last five of these past 40 years, so one might as well blame every other President since LBJ for not doing enough – and then ask, why should all the blame be laid at the feet of the feds, instead of sharing it with state and local authorities?

Check out EU Rota‘s post on the ridiculous claims of the left. This was a Natural Disaster! Yes, there are things that could be done to prepare and there were some failures on many levels. But there is no way for everyone to be prepared for everything all the time. Stop blaming anyone you feel like and help out. Donate. (Or pick another charity). Join the Blog Relief Weekend (over $500,000 raised so far). Log your contribution. THAT is what helps, NOT blaming everyone you don’t like with flimsy reasons. Move on.

Ή χάρις του κυρίου ημων Ίησου Χριστου μεθ’ υμων.

UPDATE:

I would like to quote Hugh Hewitt:

I understand that an entertainer on the NBC special said some incredibly distasteful stuff about President Bush. No doubt a lot of folks will be pretty upset. I am taking my cue from the president, who spent the day in the company of a lot of folks who seem to have spent the last 48 hours doing nothing but blasting him in an attempt to escape fallout. President Bush said nothing about his critics, but kept the focus on the victims. W is in the business of getting the relief organized and saving lives. He isn’t taking political shots, and I doubt he’s going to, no matter how great the provocation. He’s a good man and a great president, and his example should instruct his supporters to keep the focus on Americans in desperate need of help and hope.

Here is the “entertainer” (Kanye West) Hewitt is talking about (8.0 MB). (Thanks to Malkin for the link) West was Time’s Hip-Hop’s Class Act in last week’s edition. Yeah. Just watching him on the video is difficult because he was not very eloquent, especially compared to Mike Meyers. Watch it. It is pretty pathetic. NBC has, of course, issued a statement saying they don’t support or endorse his views.

I’ve been hearing this liberal crap all week. I swear a piece of the moon could fall off and it would some how be Bush’s fault. The sickest piece of crap I’ve heard is: The National Guard soliders being used just returned from Iraq and they’ve all got post traumatic stress dissorder. So, they’re going to go hay wire and kill the citizens of New Orleans. If I were a veteran, I’d be offended by that one.

The President is right. A whole bunch of people/agencies failed miserably. I’m talking City, County and State as well as the Feds. I say that becuase somehow Americans think that everything is the Fed’s responsibility (we have Liberals to thank for that one too). The word the Predsident used: “unacceptable” is the correct word. Think of Katrina as a mock terrorist attack with a weapon of mass destruction. It has a lot of the same elements (temporary denial of area, mass evacuation/refugee situation, mass casualty). In that light our response was very unacceptable.

Good thoughts there Ben. It just saddens me that this disaster has become so political. The left will take any change they get to jump all over Bush when it is so much more complicated that that. Responses have been slow but I also think that it is much more complicated than the media is making it out to be. Granted, if I was stuck there I would be mad too, and rightly so. But there is a lot involved in rescuing an entire city, it must be a logistical nightmare. If there were failures, those should be paid for, but I think we should also be patient and see what was a failure and what was just necessary because of the complex situation. I just wish the left would just think about things before lashing out and blaming everyone who isn’t them.

The nerve of him expecting the President to act like one and do his job. Doesn’t he know how much hard work that is?

  6. September 3rd, 2005 at 11:02 | #6

You mean just like he has done? Do you even understand what the job of the president is? Have you been paying attention at all?

Go see March of the Penguins (a documentary) and knock F9/11 off its pins as highest grossing documentary. :) That’s on my to do list anyway.

I agree with Michael Moore. Also I agree with salmypal, go see March of the Penguins.

I think the American left have hit rock bottom, I don’t think they can go any lower
than this. Its also tough to listen to the militant right who
want every looter shot dead on site, even if they are offering no armed resistance.
This whole thing has makes me sick. This tragidy is just so sad. the political
rhetoric is beyond anything I could have imagined. The left are blaming Bush as they
hold Mayor Nagin up as some hero, but he was hysterical, and he didn’t bother to think
of ordering an evacuation, and Governor Blanco failed to declare marshall
law, as the Gov. of Mississipi did. The Federal response was slow, but it takes an awful
lot of time to moves thousands of people. As for Mike Moore, he is very wealthy so I
expect him to do more than type a letter with his butter lobster fingers. He should send
some of that cash into the relief effort if hes so concerned

When are you people going to come to reality? Get a clue. In times of national crisis, the president needs to step up and be a leader. This clown was going to birthday parties while chaos was breaking out. The guy is a failure- even most of America knows that now. You need to step out of your little fantasy world and start thinking for once. The left has done nothing but state the obvious, which, obviously isn’t obvious enough to your rhetoric spewing little head. That’s right, blame, blame, blame. Blame all you want. It doesn’t change the fact that your king is a miserable failure in everything.

From this side of the pond, it is very obvious what Republican Presidents are supposed to do. They are to pander to the interests of those who have paid for him - nothing more nothing less. We, here, certainly do not expect Bush to act Presidentially and take control. No, he places to henchmen as directors of FEMA - who know absolutely NOTHING about disasters and what needs to be done. He ignores predictions about increased hurricane activity and severity - contrary to the ill-informed writer you refer to. He has cut Federal funding to coastal defence to 44% of its 2001 level. He decided to spend 2 more days of his holiday while people were drowning, playing his guitar, cycling and fund-raising. Mrs Bush was buying a $7,000 pair of boots - I hope they are water-proof.

One ray of hope. Unlike you, some conservatives are now seeing Bush for what he really is - a script-reading, rubber-stamping dead-head. Hopefully, for you all, he may decide to go. For your sake, I hope so.

See this is what I am talking about. Your hatred of Bush is blinding you to the situation. People are dying and it isn’t Bush’s fault, it is Katrina’s. You are mad that he went to a party? Get over it. Bush stepped up when the time was right (that is, when local governments didn’t do what they were supposed to do). I am not saying that Bush acted perfectly (who does?), but he has done a much better job than any of the local governments did. Stop making this into some partisan event that you can use to get mad at Bush, this is a national disaster where people are dying and need help. Go donate.

  13. September 5th, 2005 at 00:35 | #13

Well said Matt, I’m not about to try and reason with these people anymore. Congratulations for remaining so patient.

  14. September 5th, 2005 at 07:11 | #14

I agree with Mark and Daedalus completely. The only thing Bush is good for is standing around with a stupid grin on his face. People DIED because the government was so slow to respond. There is no excuse for this. And yes, I did donate and as a nurse, I volunteered to go help.

  15. September 6th, 2005 at 22:22 | #15

This is to the angry left on this blog and on the net:

Keep blaming Bush for every little problem you have. It’s great fun to see more Republicans win office. Please please please keep it up! Please get Michael Moore to egg Mary Landreau on some more, with her “I want to punch George Bush!” comment. The NRA could always use the extra members.

    To the conservative right:

Stay strong, the Democrat Party is circling the sewer drain. :-)

  16. September 7th, 2005 at 12:41 | #16

M Moore is as irrelevant as his incarnate creation, Sheehan, now that Katrina has rolled into the US.

  17. September 9th, 2005 at 08:15 | #17

Yeah, insanehippie. Lets see if you are as gleeful when your standard of living goes to hell because of the woeful state of affairs in this country. Is Bush the almighty great leader still?

  18. September 10th, 2005 at 02:00 | #18

Nicky, how has your standard of living gone to hell because of Bush? How has anyone’s standard of living gone to hell because of Bush? I am seriously asking. I want some Bush bashing folks to list some direct action of Bush that has directly caused some sort of hardship.
