Christian Carnival CXXV

Posted by Matt Jones on Wednesday, June 7, 2006.

Welcome to this week’s Christian Carnival! Today I bring you the 125th carnival of posts from around the Christian blogosphere. For participation instructions see Wittenberg Gate so you can contribute next week! Also, to catch up on previous editions, you can see my Christian Carnival Archive (or here for editions 1-100).

No creative theme this week, plain and simple from me. So here is Christian Carnival CXXV! (Be sure to let me know if any of the links are broken or incorrect.)

» Matt Jones (yes, me) @ Random Acts of Verbiage (do other hosts put their submissions first?) presents Late Tuesday’s Drowning Out Love, a look at the great group’s latest CD.

» Bill Tyler @ My Bubble Life presents Take This Job and Shove It” is a Country Song NOT a Best Practice, stating that

Sometimes it’s an easy choice to leave a company. However, one of the most important choices that you can make in your career is to leave your current employer in the right way. Like any other relationship, there are faults and virtues with every company. At the end of a relationship, people tend to focus on the faults.

» Don Bosch @ The Evangelical Ecologist presents Psalm 97 and the classic hymn All Creatures of our God and King, looking at

two songs that bring glory to God by praising what He has done in creation. In case you weren’t aware of it, All Creatures was penned by one of God’s original evangelical ecologists, Saint Francis of Assisi, over 800 years ago.

» Chris Alexion @ Welcome to the Fallout presents Chesterton and Calvinism, looking at

What we can learn from G. K. Chesterton’s uncharacteristic bitterness against the Reformed faith.

» Mike McLoughlin @ Faith at Work Blog presents Reconfiguring the Local Church – Reform or Revolt?, stating

This is a review of George Barna’s book Revolution. I am writing a series of posts reflecting on my experience of local church in contrast with Barna’s view of local church.

» Brandon Peele @ GT presents Nonviolent Communication, a look at a Nonviolent Communications conference and that form of communication.

» Michael Meyer @ Chasing the Wind presents Respond in Faith, stating that

Many of us have seen a trainwreck in our lives or the lives of somebody close to us. Something terrible, something awful, that left us with a feeling of “why me?” A marriage that failed, a mother or father that died. Some are widows or widowers, having lost spouses too early. When calamity happens, we want to ask why, we want to question God. Some may want to step away from their faith in anger at God. Why do bad things happen to good people?

» John Howell @ Brain Cramps for God presents 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover, which is actually a look at John Piper’s Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die, not the Paul Simon Song.

» John Bambenek @ Part-Time Pundit presents The Economics of Life, stating that

While the country is decidely against abortion, the fact remains the we still put a value on human life, and if you are on the losing end of the equation, you die.

» The Bloke @ in the outer… presents I am sorry, Mr Dawkins, You are sadly mistaken, stating that

I read Richard Dawkins “Is Science a Religion?” and got irritated enough to respond with a rant.

» The Random Maniyak @ Rondom Yak presents When Your Life Collapses into Chaos, Pay Close Attention.

» Louie Marsh @ The Marshian Chronicles presents Is Happiness Overrated, Pt. 1, The first in a series about happiness. American’s pursue it with a passion, but does seeking happiness make you happy? And if you find it, is being happy overrated? Louie thinks so!

» Carl Holmes @ Thoughts of a Gyrovague presents The Gift of Love, the first in a series of 9 reflections on the gifts of the spirit given to us in Galatians 5:22

» John @ Light Along the Journey presents From Rebelling to Embracing a fundamental passage in life.

» Mark Olson @ Pseudo-Polymath presents Pen vs Sword:

A short essay on the fallacy (or not) of the pen being mightier than the sword.

» Mandi @ Imago Dei presents Big in the news: Gay Marriage, stating that

This post links to one of the best essays I’ve ever read on this topic. Jane Galt is an independent thinker and you’d be hard pressed to put any holes through her line of thinking.

» Anthony @ Fides et Veritas presents Dry Bones, stating that

This is a post about us as Christians and whether or not we are living and growing Christians or just Dry Bones like in Ezekiel 37.

» Laura @ Pursuing Holiness presents The KatRita Wood Project, stating that

After Katrina, I got quite expert with my chainsaw, or at least I thought so until I saw what some chainsaw artists have done to contribute to hurricane recovery efforts. The KatRita Wood project has been a blessing to local Christians.

» Bill Hayes @ Rev Bill presents If The Bible Had Been Written By Dogs: Rev Bill gives a look at what a Bible written by dogs might look like!

» Penitens @ A Penitent Blogger presents The Elements Shall Melt: A reflection about the end of all things and the right direction for our lives

» Ed @ Attention Span presents Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen, where he

reviews some of the sights he’s seen over the past couple of months. Maybe this isn’t such a wonderful world after all.

» Jeremy Pierce @ Parableman presents Amendments Limiting Individual Rights, stating that

Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont has been saying that a gay marriage amendment would be the first time the U.S. Constitution has been amended to limit individual rights. It actually would be the seventh.

» Lisa @ Cross Blogging presents CFC and IFI needs your help!, stating that

The Christian Family Coalition (CFC) and the Illinois Family Institute (IFI) are hard at work. The CFC is working on the Marriage Protection Amendment (M.P.A.) to put it into the Constitution that marriage is one man/one woman. The IFI is hard at work on the Protect Marriage Illinois (P.M.I.). This is an attempt to put the question on a ballot to the voters on deciding if marriage should be defined as one man/one woman in this state.

» Kenny Pearce @ KennyPearce.net presents Why Believe the Bible? Part 2: The Life and Teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, where he

argues that there is good rational basis to suppose that the life and teachings of the historical person of Jesus of Nazareth constitute a self-revelation of God to mankind.

» Grace Dailey @ Amazing Grace presents Stupid Secret Service or Christian Persecution?

» Mark Weaver @ Kingdom-Church-Culture presents Principles or People?

» Schizo-phrenic @ The Blog of Disfunction presents Godblogs are bugging me

» Derek Gilbert @ Peering Iinto Darkness Radio presents Eearthquake Resurrection

I hope you all enjoy this week’s posts. There are a lot of good things going out there in the blogoshere! And be sure to check back at the Christian Carnival Archive for future (and all the past) Christian Carnivals. Blessings!
