Today I Like Bruce Willis a Little More

May 16th, 2007 4 comments

Bruce WillisI don’t think my opinion means jack s**t, because I’m an actor. Why do actors think their opinions mean more because you act? You just caught a break as an actor. There are hundreds – thousands – of actors who are just as good as I am, and probably better. Have you heard anything useful come out of an actor’s mouth lately?

Awesome. And I think that was the first useful thing out of an actor’s mouth in a while. (Via Ace via Flopping Aces)

Oh, and Fred Thompson is pretty awesome too. (Source)

Watching The View without throwing things at my screen

May 15th, 2007 4 comments

I don’t know how I restrained myself. Ace has posted a few more thoughts on Rosie and her conspiracy theories that I wanted to mention here. First, here is a clip from The View. People, please don’t break anything.

I won’t discuss everything here and I will be echoing some of what Ace said, so check out his post.

In my original post (Rosie the Physicist) I didn’t talk about this so I might as well now. Let’s take a look at the claim that “the WTC7 building fell at free-fall speed so it could not have collapsed as the official report states.” Firstly, it seems that they always say “free-fall speed” (I may be wrong, but I seem to recall that it is always stated as such). Rosie the physicist surely knows that free fall is an acceleration, not a speed. Secondly, there is never any mention of what WOULD cause the building to fall at free-fall. If their claim is that the damage caused by the pressure wave of WTC1 and WTC2 and the weakening (even melting???) of steel caused by raging internal fires could not have caused the building to collapse, what are our other options? Controlled demolition? Ok, if we assume for a minute that it was professionally brought down (forgetting all the logistics of that for a moment), how do those buildings fall? The fall like WTC7 did, oh no! It must have been professionally demolished! Oh wait, if the damage functionally emulated the damage that a professional demolition would cause, why wouldn’t it fall just like that?

Gravity pulls things down. When there is that much mass falling down, it will continue to fall down. It is inconsistent for the Truthers to say that professionally demolished buildings could fall that way but that a building that was horribly damaged couldn’t fall that way. It simply does not make sense. I want to hear from a Truther how one is possible but one is not.

Are the Truthers claiming that buildings cannot ever fall at this acceleration? If that is their claim, how DID the building fall like that? Was the evil government pushing it down with the poisons released from jet contrails? (heh, sorry, had to bring that idiotic conspiracy up.) As Ace pointed out, Truthers are “just ‘raising questions,’ you know, not providing answers.” This is because there are no answers that will satisfy them. The reality of the situation is not something they are willing to admit to, regardless of the science or the absurdity of their claims.

Controlled demolitions (which take large amounts of time to prepare) blow out key structures so the building falls, if the damage caused by the pressure from WTC1 and WTC2 along with the internal fires took out those same structures, wouldn’t the building fall exactly the same way?

There is much more I could say about this aggravating clip (Giuliani kept NY’s terrorism command center in WTC7 on purpose!!!! He knew all along!), but I will leave it at that. I wish the Truthers would stop asking their lame questions and provide some answers. Oh right, the answers are already available, they just don’t want to see them.

Mother’s Day Weekend

May 14th, 2007 No comments

I am sure you all noticed that I haven’t been around for a few days, well that is because I went down to Longview to spend Mother’s day weekend with the fam. I got to celebrate my birthday, watch Nathan play a game of t-ball, go to church with mom on mother’s day, give her a present, and listen to Rachel and Nathan give a piano recital… among other things. It was pretty fun times, as usual. For a few pics (and hopefully I will get some more from other family members), check out my Flickr photo set: Mother’s Day Weekend. And you, of course, should be keeping up with my Project 365 Daily Photos.

First image: Nathan playing shortstop at his tee ball game. I love this picture because Nathan is so focused on the game and everyone else is kinda in their own world… Second image: Playing cards with the family. Erin and I kicked butt at “Hand and Foot.” Third image: Mom opening Erin’s mother’s day gift (a shadow box with images of the two of them). My gift is the book on the table, The Children of Hurin by J.R.R. Tolkien. I am pretty excited for her to read it… cause then I can borrow it. ;) Fourth image: Nathan practicing for his recital, quite the focus.

There ya have it. I hope all you mothers out there had a wonderful weekend and know that you are loved!

Project 365 – Day 1 – May 10th, 2007

May 10th, 2007 11 comments

Since today is my birthday I thought that I would start up the (somewhat ambitious) task set out in Project 365: take a picture every single day for a year. My first photo comes from hanging out with middle schoolers. I am a middle school Young Life leader (for those that knew me in high school they might be somewhat surprised by this as I was not a big fan back then… to say the least) so I periodically get to hang out with some crazy 7th graders.

Project 365 - Day 1 - May 10th, 2007

If you want to see an example of what happens when you let them borrow your camera, see my Flickr set Hanging Out With Middle Schoolers.

To keep up with my progress (I won’t be posting my daily photos here), you can see my daily snapshots at my Project 365 photo set. I will be contributing to the Project 365 Flickr group along with the Project 365 group @ Vox as well. When the photos are of me, I will also be adding them to the 365 Days Flick group (which are all self portraits).

Wish me luck! Oh, and thanks to K.C. for his amazing birthday card!

This has been around a little while (thanks to Jae for first pointing it out to me and to Erin for reminding me about it): The Landlord w/ Will Ferrell and Adam McKay (and his two year old daughter). It is freaking hilarious! (There is some language, so your sensitive types should skip this one…)

Best line: Pearl – “I need to get my drink on.” Awesome. Definitely check out Ferrell’s Funny or Die, lots of good stuff.

Cinco de Mayo 2007 23Cinco de Mayo 2007 15Oh good times in Bothell and Redmond! As if Cinco de Mayo wasn’t enough reason for having a party, Laurel was also in town! The weekend was lots of fun: I was able to hang out with people I haven’t seen in a long time, got to eat lots of tasty food, and play in the park! Who could ask for more?

For more Cinco de Mayo fun, check out my Flickr photo set! The various group shots are pretty good: #1#2#3#4#5#6#7. Oh, and of course, KC’s butt and Meghan being sultry.
