Soul Survivor

Well, today was the Lord’s Day, therefore, Wil and I made our way to the church a couple times today. First we went to Wil’s local church in Tring: High Street Baptist Church. The pastor there was a sweet old man, who apparently has known Wil for quite a while. It was kind of a dusty, drab old building, but the people that were a part of the church were very warm and welcoming.

Now unfortunately, I do tend to be the kind of person who easily falls asleep in church. Wil has a very difficult time understanding this sort of thing and so after the lengthy prayer time in which the church prayed for a number of things and people I had no relation or relationship with, I began to dose. I wasn’t asleep mind you, but lets say when the sermon started immediately thereafter, my eyelids were quite heavy. Till I felt a frustrated punch in the side of my arm eliciting my prompt attention. Wil was not happy with me and I felt bad for bestowing unintentional disrespect upon the pastor’s sermon, however, sleeping in church is something that happens to me often. I’m sorry, but the majority of pastor’s sermons I hear, though well intentioned and even meaningful are usually not enough to hold my attention. I do try hard to hear God and be open to the Spirit, but sometimes I’m uninspired by their speaking. Not to say that was the case with Pastor Bill. I was mostly just tired this particular Sunday with all the traveling.

Sunday afternoon we rounded up some grub from the grocery and Wil took a nice Sunday nap while I puttered about doing various things. Later that evening, we joined Wil’s parents for a very traditional British dinner of roast beef, roasted potatoes, veggies, Yorkshire Pudding, and gravy. It was delicious! :) I love Yorkshire Pudding.

Then we made our way off to Soul Survivor, home of such talents as Tim Hughes and Matt Redman. It was a wonderful church and the service was extremely inspiring. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to hear Mike Pilavaci (sp?) speak because he was out of town, but I was touched by the service.

Funny thing- they didn’t have seating in the auditorium! Everybody just sat on the floor. I thought that was particularly interesting since I suppose that saves a lot of moving and means you can squeeze a lot of people into the building. However, it made being there particularly uncomfortable. For me at least and I have a lot of cushioning down there if you know what I mean.
