Let me be selfish for a moment…

I want one.

I held out getting an iPod for a long time. Before last Christmas I started flirting with the idea of getting one. Then one generous Christmas present from the parents later I had my first MP3 player. The lovely first gen, 4 GB iPod nano. I fell in love. It’s true. I can’t deny it. Then I moved to Bellingham with the idea of going to grad school. Little did I know, Bellingham had it out for me. One innocent day of swimming at the local aquatic center and my tiny black music player waved goodbye courtesy of the friendly wielder of bolt cutters. C’est la vie.

Enter Steve Jobs. The other day Apple announced a bunch of new stuff. Included? New iPods! In particular? The new black 8 GB iPod nano. It’s just so pretty. (Give me a break, I don’t have a girlfriend!)

Please Donate

Hint hint… I’m just saying… if you happen to be a rich philanthropist passing by my blog, please feel free to privide a little joy to a jobless grad student in much debt. If you were so inclined that is. Thanks!

;)

DOn’t have a girlfriend? WHat a pity, you’re too damned cute!!!

Actually, the last iPod I bought was a 20GB Nano, and I love it; not looking to replace it anytime soon. Post a great reason here as to why I should send you $50 towards your purchase, and I will gladly do so. :-)

    Talk to Dan Segars. :)

    Hummm… a reason?

How about because I have a napkin on my head? Hehe. In all seriousness, I never actually expect people to give me money, there are always people much more deserving than I! :)

Segars? Why? Has he been knocking over Apple stores?

Well shit, you’ve basically convinced me!!!

I’ve just done my part on the $50 thing (being that you appropriately convinced me…LOL)…just letting you know, ’cause my “real name” is nothing like my online one.

    Hope you get your iPod!!!

Haha, I do what I can.

Are you freaking kidding me? You are too much and way too kind! Thank you so much, I really don’t know what to say. I’m glad the napkin put me over the top. :)

Yup, the napkin did it. ;-)

Hey, I used to be a poor grad student in the past, so I understand what it’s like to want something and not be able to afford it. I hope you get the money that you need and enjoy!!! :-)

So you are saying there might be hope for met yet? Oh wait… I will be a public middle/high school science teacher… I will pretty much always be in debt. ;) I will be sure to let you know when I raise the funds to listen to some tunes!

    Wow.

Yeah, Segars works at the apple store in the U-village. I’m sure he would be happy to help you. :)

Humm… I will have to have a little chat with him. Although, he would probably just charge me more.

Well good luck getting an iPod, needy science students always deserve them. :-) Incidentally, I was needy until I got a “real” job…the whole postdoc thing was a nightmare financially, what with living in San DIego at the time and getting paid poorly, but SoCal was awesome enough that I didn’t mind too much. :-)

  12. September 14th, 2006 at 19:27 | #12

Heh, I certainly hope so! Yeah, grad school is great and all, but it would be nice to get one of them “real” jobs. Eh, it will come in time. :) I kinda feel the same about Seattle. Expensive place to live, but worth it (of course not as expensive as San Diego!).

  13. September 15th, 2006 at 16:34 | #13

I’m actually surprised by how much I love ALbuquerque…second-favourite place I’ve ever lived (after, of course, San Diego!). My first “real job” after post-doc was in Dallas for 3 years, and THAT (the state of Texas as well as the job) sucked balls. I get $72K here at UNM as a Research Assistant Professor, which is good money, but I’d prefer to get paid by the hour. ;-) You know what I mean! LOL!

If only researchers could get paid for overtime! How nice that would be! :) Of course, $72K aint bad! ;)

I don’t know if I could handle Texas… too hot and dry I think.
