XXXchurch and a Pornographer’s Conversion

A while back I posted Bible: The Porn Star Edition about how I had some doubts about the use of the XXXchurch‘s Bible cover. While, I still have my doubts about that, I know that the need for the XXXchurch is real and that their ministry is important.

While reading Kevin Cawley’s blog I came across his post XXXChurch & Donny Pauling’s Conversion and saw that their mission does actually reach people.

x3blog (the XXXchurch’s blog) has posted Introducing Donny Pauling. Donny Pauling is a prominent pornographer that has shot more than half a million pictures for the porn industry. That post had this to say:

Well… God will do what He will do. On Monday of this week Donovan, real name Donny Pauling asked Christ into his life, and Christ obliged and Donny responded! Donavan called us a few weeks back telling us he wanted to leave porn and do something else. He said he was not ready to come to Christ and still has a lot of doubts. We continued to talk and send emails back and forth. I read in James it says “If you know people who have wandered off from God’s truth don’t write them off. Go after them. Get them back and you will have rescued precious lives from destruction. Donavan called Monday and he said, I gave up Craig. God’s came running.

It goes on to quote from Pauling’s blog post from the other day “I’m Out, But the Blog Abides!“:

I’ve always questioned the faith my father tried to teach me. There are so many things about Christianity that just make no sense to me. Right here in this blog you’ve seen me ridicule various aspects of it. But, like many of you probably do, I still pray from time to time. It just feels good once in awhile, doesn’t it? Even if you’re not entirely sure anyone’s listening. It’s a psychological thing, ya know?

This past week I finally decided to stop fighting some of the turmoil’s I’ve had inside. I prayed the following prayer, almost word-for-word:

“God, you know that I have trouble believing the sacrifice was ever truly made. But I want to accept it anyway and hope that you somehow help me reconcile those doubts. I’m inviting you back into my life.”

How about that? Interesting story, eh? Very cool I think! I imagine that is a difficult thing for Pauling to do. Porn paid his bills, now it won’t. Praying for him and the XXXchurch would be appropriate I think.

xxchurch really is an important ministry. I am glad to hear it’s making an impact right where it should!

I agree. I think on a surface level it can be easy for some people to criticize these types of ministry groups, but when real people are touched and affected by them, it is pretty hard to ignore their importance.

That is so cool. I just read it to my roomies, and we were all very moved. Thanks for pointing me in that direction!

Quite welcome, it is something that Christians should definitely be aware of!

I found this while Googling my name tonight. Thanks for the kind words. It’s been a series of ups and downs so far. Today I was offered a job paying $72k per year. That’s much less than I’m used to making, but much more than I thought I’d have to accept. This is quite the journey already.

And if XXXChurch hadn’t shown up on the floor of the porn convention in Las Vegas I never would have taken them seriously. If that had been standing outside the show I’d have just passed them by and shrugged them off.

By the way, the new position is in the Seattle area.

I am glad you found my blog Donny. You have started on a difficult path in a very difficult way. Heh, it obviously won’t be easy. Thankfully the Christian community, as flawed as it is, is strong and encouraging. Just stay strong in your decisions, it is the best decision one could make for yourself and your son. God bless your journey and I hope you will get settled in Seattle and your “new life” will start to take hold and feel “normal”. :)

Imagine showing up to church next sunday and finding a 30 foot high erect phallus on top of your church or in the church parking lot announcing a sermon series on Pornography. “Absurd and ridiculous”, you say. “No Christian Church or Ministry would ever resort to something as shameful as a giant phallus”, you say. Sadly, you’d be wrong. (Warning: Explicit Link)
    According to Wally’s Website:
Mike and Craig of XXXchurch dreamed up the idea of Wally one afternoon in sunny southern California. XXXchurch exists to bring awareness, openness, accountability and recovery to the church, society and individuals in the issues of pornography and to begin to provide solutions through non-judgmental and creative means.

    also
the “way of the master” is against XXX church’s dragging the church down and making it look bad, there is a blog on the way of the master,, radio where they say XXX church is real wrong..they show a video of XXXchurch’s porn puppet and a porn producer Ron Jeremy telling children at a grocery store porn is not for children but is for adults,,, this is abomination check it out..
