2996

I am finally back home after a long week of music and camping and family and fun. I took way too many pictures and will be sorting through them over the next few days to see what is postable.

Anyway, today is September 11th (if you have been in a cave or something). I know there will be posts from all around the blogosphere commemorating the 5th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, DC so I am not really going to add much. Firstly, check out 911 Anniversary at Google Video. They have lots of video clips including a documentary called 7 Days in September that look at the week of aftermath. Secondly, what I would like to do is direct you to 2996 [EDIT: currently the site is down due to heavy traffic, please keep trying and please see my 2996 page for the list and additional mirror sites or you can download the 2996 list in a Zip file or see the 2996 in plain HTML. EDIT II: the official page has been moved to Project 2996 and has a 9/11 update at Shock and Awe, check it out.]:

2,996 is a tribute to the victims of 9/11.

On September 11, 2006, 2,996 volunteer bloggers will join together for a tribute to the victims of 9/11. Each person will pay tribute to a single victim.

We will honor them by remembering their lives, and not by remembering their murderers.

Check out the list of participating bloggers and who they will be writing about [again, the site is down, so check out my 2996 Page for the list and additional mirrors]. I think bloggers have really gone all out to share the lives of the people that were lost on this day five years ago. Please see that list to find out about these people and also see Laura‘s contribution: Rudy Mastrocinque. She has done a wonderful job writing up a tribute to Rudy that is very well worth the read (you should also read her post My 2996 Tribute, it is also well worth it).

Extraordinary footage. I felt as though I was there.

I agree (although I think you meant to post the comment at the WTC collapse video post).
